Business Central Universal Code Initiative

With the introduction of Microsoft's Universal Code Initiative, preparation for the cloud became essential. Since October 2022, Microsoft has been asking its customers to make the Business Central solutions they use cloud-ready. If you update your Business Central license to a current version as part of an update project, you should take Microsoft's requirements into account to avoid paying additional license fees.

Regular updates are essential to ensure the long-term support of your application. This is done by means of a major update that is released every six months. Each major update is supported by monthly minor updates.

The current Business Central version is updated for 12 months after the release date by regular updates from Microsoft. After this period, you must update your software to the latest Business Central version in order to continue to receive full support for your ERP solution.  

On-premises vs. cloud

If you operate your Microsoft solution on-premises, you can decide for yourself whether and when you want to update your software. We support you in updating to the latest Business Central version. We can also help you update your applications and ensure that your entire business solution functions optimally.

If you use Business Central via Microsoft's cloud service, updates to the latest version are carried out automatically. You can postpone the time of the planned updates by up to two weeks; beyond this, the update cycle cannot be individually defined. To keep your business software running smoothly, we ensure that all your applications are updated promptly. In the event of a delayed update, your apps may not be compatible with the latest Business Central version and therefore not be functional. In this case, Microsoft would automatically remove the apps in question from your Business Central instance.
