If the code of your Business Central solution is not written in extensions, it is automatically not cloud-optimized. This means that you are obliged to pay both fees.

The Microsoft specifications include:

• Code in extensions: All changes and adaptations to the standard must be made in the form of extensions. Direct adaptations to the standard are no longer permitted.
• Cloud-ready code: The written code must be designed in such a way that it is possible to switch to the cloud at any time. It is fundamentally irrelevant whether the cloud is actually used or whether work continues on-premises.

These requirements ensure that you can easily migrate your Business Central solution to the cloud. Nevertheless, as a user, you are free to choose which deployment option you would like to work with.

Why should you adhere to the guidelines of the Universal Code Initiative?
